Toronto shantymen Pressgang Mutiny tap straight into the communal heart of sea shanty and maritime folk on this latest single, blending call-and-response vocals, thick harmonies, and work-song repetition into something that feels physical rather than performative. The track pulls equally from nautical and railroad traditions, carrying the rough language of labour songs that were designed to be shouted, not polished.

Old Mick stands out in how comfortably it lives in the present. Subtle contemporary production and historical shanty samples, including material linked to Stan Hugill and Liverpool collective Stormalong John, frame the song without overpowering it. Tradition remains at the centre, but it's treated as something active and adaptable, not frozen in time.

Pressgang Mutiny aren't outsiders romanticizing the form; they're sailors, researchers, and performers who've carried these songs from tall ships to pubs and folk festivals across Canada, the UK, Europe, and beyond. That experience shows in the song's confidence and momentum.

Arriving ahead of their upcoming album Departure (out March 13, 2026 via Slammin Media), Old Mick reinforces the band's belief that shanties still belong in shared spaces - loud, repetitive, and sung together. It's folk music built for voices raised side by side, exactly as it was meant to be.
