Gear Review: Roland TD-07KV V-Drum Set
The Roland TD-07KV is a versatile electric kit for amateur and professional drummers. It has features that are great for practicing and in the studio. A real bass drum pedal and pad, with mesh head pads, make it feel very similar to an acoustic drumkit. It is easy to record drums from this kit into your favorite music software thanks to the USB port. The Bluetooth function is the icing on the cake.
I've always been a fan of mesh pads, due to the natural feel and noise reduction when practicing late at night. The Roland TD-07KV has mesh pads on the toms as well as the snare. This means you don't have to adjust your playing as the toms and snare are made from the same material. What sets this kit apart from the competition is the level of sound control it offers. You can change the EQ on each drum to suit your needs. This is amazing when recording in the studio! You can also set 2 separate sounds to the snare pad. Which is ideal for playing rimshots and rim clicks.
The Roland TD-07KV has a hi-hat, ride cymbal, and crash cymbal. Having dual-triggered cymbals only increase your musical options. Being able to "choke" a cymbal is great for rock music. Playing a separate sound on the bell and then another sound on the edge of the ride cymbal is perfect for Latin
beats. The cymbals are made from soft rubber which keeps the volume level low.
Hi Hat Pedal
The response when opening the hi-hat pedal with your foot on the Roland TD-07KV V-Drum Set is incredibly accurate. I always felt slight latency when opening the hit hat pedal on most electric kits. This certainly isn't the case with the TD-07KV! The hi-hat pedal stand is almost identical to a stand used on an acoustic drumset. This makes playing it feel more realistic as opposed to just having a foot pedal.
Bass drum pedal
The Roland TD-07KV V-Drum Set comes with a real bass drum pedal and pad. I feel having a real bass drum pedal is what separates entry-level kits from professional kits. Being able to change the tension on the bass drum pedal gives the user a more enjoyable playing experience. This isn't possible on pedals where the trigger is built in.
The Rack System
The Roland TD-07KV V-Drum Set has a sturdy metal rack. The kit can be set up on any surface due to the rubber stoppers on the rack. The clamps are incredibly flexible. This makes it possible to set up the pads on various angles. It also comes with ties that are great for keeping all the wires neatly together.
The Roland TD-07KV has an easy-to-use module with over 25 preset kits. Its ability to individually change each drum sound is an advantage when recording drums in the studio. There is also a metronome and rhythm coach so you can track your progress when practicing. Even though the module has advanced features it is still incredibly simple to use.
The Roland TD-07KV has many notable features. A USB port means you can send your drums from the kit to your computer. This is endless fun as you can then edit your drum tracks on the music software of your choice. The Bluetooth function is also great for playing along with your favorite songs.
