This edition features: a piece that sounds like a preserved memory from the seaside in the 1940s, a track that sounds like sunlight interacting with the azure green surfaces of plantlife, a piece that unfolds like a music box in the middle of a garden overgrown with Hydrangeas; a track that sounds like you are hearing it through the window of a house shaped like a pastel blue sea-shell; a song that is a mix of ambient textures melting over dreamy shoegaze; a piece built around the theme of first contact happening underwater, a piece that sounds like falling backwards into a plush pink pillow of sound, the petals closing around your ears; and more!

Hana Stretton - Stove

This sounds like a preserved memory from the seaside in the 1940s, like scientists figured out how to extract a memory from someone's mind in audio format, and you, for the first time in human history, get to step inside and experience this, first hand.

Within it, you stand upon the sandy shore as the sun sets, music leaking out from the seaside hotel in the distance, the muted bell-like sound swirling around your ears making it feel all the more hypnagogic. This sounds not only like a hard preservation of a memory, but of how the mind interprets the memory, making it all the more dreamy.

This is taken from the album ‘tiarn’.

ext-pop - an imagined time

Article photo - Dreamhouse by the Ocean: Best New Ambient Music - August 2026

This is a piece 36:56 minutes in length, from the Chilean sound artist and electronic music composer (who is based in Montreal). ‘ext-pop’ opens with sounds that feel unfamiliar and industrial, creating a vaguely eerie atmosphere, rife with the sense of entering into the unknown. As the song progresses, sunlight starts to come through; the effects on the soundscape almost chimeral, you breathe it in, moving your body towards it, before things veer seamlessly back into obsidian black, leaving you alone in the dark.

There is something about the textures of the sounds that communicate vast, indifferent structures, like walking inside a concrete tower where you can’t tell what lies ahead in the dark. The finale swoops you up, like a mirage where you thought you heard something in the distance, but had given up all hope, only to find it was real all along, and you rush towards it.

The artist shares that it is a “piece reflecting on exile, displacement, adaptation and misadaptation, and the many experiences that shape the condition of an expatriate. Dedicated to all expatriates and foreigners dispersed across the globe, and to the imagined worlds they inhabit.”

Ambient2k - 6/29/26

Article photo - Dreamhouse by the Ocean: Best New Ambient Music - August 2026

This pretty much sounds like the photo above. Like sunlight interacting with the azure green surfaces of plantlife. It also has an underwater quality, where, upon listening, you are submerged into an oceanic botanical world of your own. Go find a meadow, a forest, a tree, even go to the garden center and find the most plush, verdant section there and let yourself sink into a state of pure bliss.

Ryuichi Shima - Orgl#1

Article photo - Dreamhouse by the Ocean: Best New Ambient Music - August 2026

With a melody built using the Klevgrand Speldosa - Wintergatan Music Box, this unfolds like a music box in the middle of a garden overgrown with Hydrangeas. The melodies evolve and get more complex as time goes on - carving a magical sonic space for you to sink into.

charles nutrivore - cellophane 1

Article photo - Dreamhouse by the Ocean: Best New Ambient Music - August 2026

This is taken from an album called ‘cellophane felt’ with all the proceeds being donated to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund. The artist used a layer of styrofoam in order to ‘felt’ the piano (which means using material to dampen the sound of the piano, which produces a softer sound).

This is the opening of the album; it is kind of surreal and gentle in its beauty, almost like you are hearing it through the window of a house shaped like a pastel blue sea-shell.

Imaginary Beings - Fastitocalón (out via Camembert Électrique)

Article photo - Dreamhouse by the Ocean: Best New Ambient Music - August 2026

This landed in my inbox, with the subject line ‘First Contact Happened Underwater’ catching my eye. This is taken from ‘[VA #44] – THEY CAME FOR THE WHALES’ which is a “compilation exploring the hidden languages of the oceans and the strange possibility that the first dialogue with an intelligence from elsewhere may never have been addressed to humanity” [via Bandcamp], featuring interpretations of this theme from artists all over the world.

‘Fastitocalón’ is a blend of whale sounds, with plush, dark sonic textures, communicating the vastness and darkness of the deep oceans in a way that feels rather terrifying, making you feel like you have been submerged in a world fully removed from our own.

Camembert Électrique is holding an open call at the moment based around the theme ‘SOURCE UNKNOWN’.

Stumbleine - Spellbound

Article photo - Dreamhouse by the Ocean: Best New Ambient Music - August 2026

This will take your breath away. Taken from the EP ‘Head over Heels’ by UK-based producer Stumbleine, ‘Spellbound’ is a mix of ambient textures melting over dreamy shoegaze, with the sounds of someone talking in the distance and a haunting melody crafted out of chopped vocals. It sounds like it exists in that space between being awake and entering a dream.

Hainbach - A Hundred Suns

This is taken from the artist’s upcoming album (which will be out in Autumn via Seil Records). The soundscape shimmers as if has been soaked in sunlight - it's the kind of song that makes you want to sit at the window and watch the city come to life in the morning, the light of the rising sun reflecting off the glass of the buildings, it slowly dawning on you how rich and wonderfully odd this life is, even the things we perceive as being mundane and part of the everyday.

Eden Aurelius - Passing

Article photo - Dreamhouse by the Ocean: Best New Ambient Music - August 2026

This is taken from the NYC producer’s album ‘Entre Nous.’

This sounds like falling backwards into a plush pink pillow of sound, the petals closing around your ears. It sounds like the shimmering inner workings of the mind, of a landscape made entirely of your imagination.

Jay Hosking - Ambient cascades

I saw the thumbnail for this on YouTube, and it was like catnip to me. This opens with crystal-like textures that float over the baseline like clouds. Close your eyes and let this sweep you away - imagine that you are rising over the snow capped mountains and floating away into the awe inspiring beauty of the cosmos.
