Best in Punk Rock: December 2024 Edition
December 2024 has surely been a ride for punk rock lovers! This month has everything: gritty garage-punk bangers, melodic hardcore anthems, ska-punk nostalgia, and even some hilariously satirical gems.
This list features the latest from D Rail, Núningur, Dia de Greve, Dead Neck, Danny Cleaver, Jesus and The 7 Trumpets, Buzzbomb, Alexx Munro, Cave Noire, and Get The Fuck Outta Dodge.
Deathblow Peepshow - Get The Fuck Outta Dodge
Starting off the list with one of my personal punk rock tracks of December 2024 so far, Deathblow Peepshow, from Get The Fuck Outta Dodge’s latest album called Just.Keep.Looking.Forward.
It’s a riotous garage-punk anthem, packed with sharp riffs, biting lyrics, and that unmistakable Sheffield sleaze.
Play it loud, preferably while throwing caution (and maybe a chair) to the wind.

Núningur - Subject to Abuse
Núningur is raw, sardonic, and pulsing with an unsettling, self-aware nihilism that doesn’t ask for your approval simply because it couldn’t care less!
This is the first track on Subject to Abuse’s latest album, ...en fyrst þetta, an industrial and bleak punk rock delivery straight out of Akranes, Iceland.
Give it a listen if the idea of a soundtrack for modern malaise sounds like your cup of tea.

Gorila Skate - Dia de Greve
Brazilian hardcore punks Dia de Greve come crashing out of Niterói with Gorila Skate, a rebellious track that flies out the skatepark to the picket line.
My favorite thing about this one is the shout-along vocals that hit like a brick to the chest, reminding me of the fury and urgency of DIY punk ethos.
Listen to this one if you’re looking to fill that empty slot on your queercore and skate punk mixtape.

The Wind Still Blows - Dead Neck
Clocking in at breakneck speed, The Wind Still Blows is a relentless barrage of rapid-fire drums and guitar riffs. There’s a melodic and emotional side to it too, making it the kind of song that throws you into the pit but offers a hand to pick you up after the breakdown.
Give this one a listen if you’re into loud melodic hardcore and give them a shoutout on one of the platforms here below!

Glad to Meet You - D Rail
D Rail’s latest album release (called Bonus Tracks 2024) is a Christmas present no one expected to receive and Glad to Meet You is the red and golden bow on top. Spin it for some good ol’ hi-energy, no-frills punk rock with a nostalgic West Coast edge. With its punchy guitars, heartfelt lyrics, and fist-in-the-air chorus, this track radiates an undeniable warmth—equal parts reunion anthem and love letter to the scene that made them.

I Lost My Head - Danny Cleaver
Danny Cleaver’s I Lost My Head is a playful chaos, delivering garage punk with a wink and a shove. Yes, the frantic energy and shout-along refrain are very noticeable, but there’s a fun side to it like you’re enjoying the process of losing your head!
If smashing a vase, shrugging it off, and laughing about it later was a song, it’d be I Lost My Head! Short, punchy, and knowingly messy.
Play this tune for when you’re losing your cool so at least you’ll enjoy the ride!

Take Ya'll to Church - Jesus and The 7 Trumpets
If Take Ya’ll to Church is anything, it’s a wild second coming—ska punk style. I had a blast listening to this one (90s nostalgia with a satirical twist? I don’t care if it’s AI bro).
Watch as the savior trades sandals for checkered Vans and flips sermons into upbeat, brass-driven bangers.
With tongue firmly in cheek, the band resurrects the best of ska punk’s golden era: catchy hooks, offbeat rhythms, and a dose of gleeful chaos.

Storm Warning - Buzzbomb
Pulled from their upcoming 2025 album and featured on the Brutal Deluxe EP, Storm Warning is a sharp and unapologetically punk tun that will find its spot on your playlist in seconds.
The verses sketch a grim reality—inequality, hypocrisy, and creeping authoritarianism—while the chorus delivers a rallying call to resist.
The album is not fully out yet but it’s already clear Buzzbomb is doing what they do best—serving up a feast of fast, fearless, and catchy punk rock.

Early Worm Catches the Bird - Alexx Munro
Alexx Munro calls his style “sad punk (but) fun” and I agree. It’s cute and fun and sad and very much punk.
I picked Early Worm Catches the Bird from his latest album on Bandcamp called Ratled. With candid lyrics about dead-end jobs, existential dread, and that gnawing desire to thrive rather than just survive, the song’s emotional punch is softened by its singalong-worthy chorus: “We’ll be alright, be just fine, we’re just losing our minds.”
It’s catchy, comforting, and cute in a way that can bring a smile to your face.

Desert Monk Blues - Cave Noire
Cave Noire’s Desert Monk Blues feels like the perfect meeting point of punk grit and metal swagger.
Formed by Isaque Soares of Brazilian death metal outfit Krig and Ritchy Nails, a Canadian punk rock mainstay, the duo brings a wealth of experience and energy to this desert-fueled jam.
If you like the sound of raw emotions and unyielding riffs, you’ll like the sound of Cave Noir’s latest album, I. Find the album preview on Bandcamp now!
