Bronwyn - Gallatin Road
There's something wonderfully unruly about this country tune. It rolls with a Jerry Reed groove, splashes of bluegrass spirit, and enough outlaw attitude to make me want to keep driving long after the sun has slipped behind the Tennessee hills.
I love how "Anything goes, out on Gallatin Road" turns one road into a living character, full of honky-tonks, old American Legion dances, strange little shops, and stories that smell of hot asphalt, gasoline, and barbecue smoke. Taken from Rattlin' Bones, due August 14, it's impossible not to grin while this one spins.

Waylon Jennings - Diamonds
It's hard to describe the feeling of hearing a previously unreleased Waylon Jennings recording so many years later. Unearthed by his son, Shooter Jennings, Diamonds carries the warmth and conviction that made Waylon such a singular voice in outlaw country.
When he sings, "Didn't I give you diamonds? Didn't I give you stars?", I hear someone still searching every back road for a love that's already disappeared over the horizon.
Taken from the upcoming archive collection Diamonds, arriving November 13 physically and December 11 digitally, it feels like an old friend walking back through the front door.

Bird - Daddy
Daddy stopped me in my tracks. Blending acoustic folk with gentle country touches, Bird doesn't point fingers or chase easy; instead, she untangles the knots that families carry from one generation to the next.
Taken from her new album Held Here Together, the song feels like sitting on an old wooden porch after everyone else has gone inside, finally finding the courage to understand the people who raised you, even when the inheritance wasn't made of land or money, but silence, tenderness, and anger that never found the right words.

The String Cheese Incident - Lightning Sky
Blending bluegrass, Americana, roots rock and folk with The String Cheese Incident's unmistakable warmth, it feels like driving across open country where tall grass bends beneath a summer wind and thunder gathers on the horizon.
The image of "the restless wind through the tall grass" reminds me that family stories never really disappear; they're carried from one generation to the next, waiting for someone willing to stop, listen, and remember.

Bran Redneck - Redneck
Built around twangy Telecasters, banjos, slide guitar and a sturdy country groove with blues running underneath, Redneck celebrates the miles, the roadside diners, the Walmart parking lots, the tiny bars where the stage barely fits the band, and the friendships that somehow make every hard road worth driving.
It doesn't romanticize the simple life, it remembers it with a smile, a cup of bad coffee in hand, and enough gratitude to make me miss places I've never actually been.

Holy Bones - El Desierto
I love when Americana wanders beyond America's borders and finds a new home. El Desierto blends indie rock with dusty desert Americana, carrying the slow pull of an endless highway where the air smells of sage, warm earth, and distant rain that may never arrive.
The mariachi trumpets feel as natural as the landscape itself, giving this first glimpse of Holy Bones' upcoming early 2027 album the feeling of a road you never quite want to leave behind.

Lynn Hollyfield - For Emma
There's a beautiful honesty running through For Emma that immediately drew me in. Rooted in contemporary folk with gentle Americana touches, it carries a melody that belongs on an old front porch where conversations stretch long after the coffee has gone cold.
Taken from Diving In, every word feels lived-in, reminding me that some songs simply sit beside you until you feel a little lighter.

Ryan Burns - Let It Out Again
I could almost see the snow piling against Chicago's brick buildings while this one played. Blending indie folk and Americana with a warm alt-country twang, Let It Out Again captures that familiar feeling of wanting nothing more than to step outside and breathe after the world has grown too small.
It's the first taste of Just Keep Growing, arriving this October, and it reminds me that slowing down can sometimes be the bravest thing we do.

Holy Coves - Travelling
Some songs feel as though they're written to keep another person's heart warm until you can finally see them again. Blending country rock with an easy Americana current, Travelling became Scott Marsden's way of reaching his son through an impossibly difficult chapter, and you can hear every bit of that love inside "Sail on son into the world outside, follow your dreams".
With Hiraeth arriving August 14, this feels like a letter folded carefully into a guitar case.

The Heists - Break & Mend
This is the kind of bluegrass and folk song that could only have come from Alaska. Break & Mend understands that the same mountains, forests, and rivers that fill us with wonder can also ask for everything in return, yet there's never resentment, only respect.
Knowing it was recorded live with everyone sharing the same room makes that sense of community even stronger, and I'm already looking forward to the full Break & Mend EP on September 24.

Hayden Ryann - Walk Through Fire
I love that this country-pop anthem refuses to waste time feeling sorry for itself. Hayden Ryann turns heartbreak into something fearless, trading tears for grit as she declares, "I ain't bitter, baby, I'm just better off without you".
Every chorus feels like rolling the truck windows down, leaving yesterday somewhere in the rear-view mirror, and choosing yourself without looking back.

Travis Dolter - Brown Liquor
Every country fan knows someone who swears they'll stick to beer...until somebody orders whiskey. Brown Liquor leans into that familiar story with plenty of country-rock energy and a grin on its face, turning blurry memories, questionable decisions, and tomorrow morning's headache into something you can't help laughing about.
It's a song that belongs in a packed roadhouse where the dance floor stays busy until closing time.

Justin Sutton - Honkytonk Time
Sometimes the best country songs don't ask for much; they just remind us to stop checking the clock. Honkytonk Time is exactly that kind of easygoing country anthem, inviting me to leave work behind, pull on a worn pair of boots, and disappear into a dance hall where the only thing on the schedule is the next two-step. By the time Justin sings, "I'm on vacation and it's Honkytonk Time", I already believe him.

The Nershis - I Drive Me Crazy Too

There's something special about hearing an entire family tell stories together. Blending Americana, country folk, bluegrass and Colorado roots music, The Nershis fill I Drive Me Crazy Too with warm harmonies that feel as natural as conversation around a kitchen table after supper.
As the first taste of Songs For The Road, arriving October 9, it reminds me that the people who know us best are usually the first to laugh when we admit, yes...sometimes we drive ourselves a little crazy too.
