5 Electronic Artists Everyone on the Planet Should Know
I hand-select some electronic artists who have blown me away with their artistry and creativity.
Featuring: niina, STM, moistbreezy, BUTCHABOI and Anna Kozonína.

I am of the belief that music has never been richer; that underneath all the slop lies a lush, rich treasure trove of art, music, and creativity, the kind that will blow your mind right open.
I am aware that as an artist myself, it definitely doesn’t feel that way, especially considering how hostile the algorithms on various social media platforms and DSPs have become towards independent artists sharing their art, and being up against the iron grip large conglomerate labels have over essentially all of these platforms can make it all feel next to impossible. However, there are so many talented artists who are doing something new and interesting; paving their own way and making the world a richer, more vibrant place by sharing their art. Below, I selected some artists who I am blown away by and everyone on the planet should know about.
niina

I first came across artist/producer niina via her 2020 release ‘wants me’(taken from the EP ‘2 high 2 cry’). I was enchanted by the pom-pomed heels dancing to the sugary electronics (the glittery pastels reminding me of the gorgeous world in Bryan Lee O Malley and Leslie Hung’s graphic novel ‘Snotgirl’), the dreamy house vibe blended with just a dash of indifference making the whole thing even more glamorous.
This mesmerizing quality continued in future releases, all of which possessed a shimmering, enigmatic quality. The artist's new album ‘honestly, does this smell off to you?’ showcases the artist's sonic imagination as she weaves a series of plush, sparkling electronic soundscapes, with vocals that at times have a touch of early ‘00s Lily Allen. I don’t know anyone who sounds like niina in electronic music today; to be unique when so much music is being uploaded every second of every day is to be an artist in the truest sense.

STM

I only recently came across artist, producer and engineer STM via her new song ‘moonlight’ (which was a gift from the YouTube algorithm). I was immediately enchanted by the violet-tinted night-time world of her music.
STM writes, produces and engineers all of her own music, blending ethereal vocals with electronics that sound like they were made by an angel communicating via cyberspace.
Her 2025 album ‘ULTRAVIOLET’ is spectacular, the opening song ‘violet error’ sounding like a nighttime drive through a dystopian cityscape in a science fiction movie. I feel like I am inside a beautifully illustrated graphic novel when I listen to her music, and so will you.

Anna Kozonína

I came across Helsinki-based artist Anna Kozonína very recently via her 4-track EP ‘All Dark Things’.
There is something about her music that reminds me of the scope of imagination possible within electronic music. ‘Mariana’ (from the ‘All Dark Things’) is hypnotic and dark, sounding like something from Robert Eggers folk-horror ‘The Witch’. ‘The Sleeper’ dissolves into something deliciously odd and off-kilter as time goes on, and ‘Strange Math’ is a bewitching sonic experience. ‘Saturn, After All’ is by far one of the best electronic songs of the year; in our series Fresh to Death Friday, I described it as being like something from the planet Winter in Ursula Le Guin’s Nebula Award-winning book ‘The Left Hand of Darkness’. Anna Kozonína isn’t trying to create something vague and palatable enough to slot into a playlist; she is creating art, art cloaked in darkness and shadow, art that will stay with you long after the lights go off.

moistbreezy

There was a time before I knew moistbreezy, and the time that came after.
I first discovered her via her 2023 album ‘Pure Imagination’. This enticed me with its blue-skied euro-paradise visuals that brought to mind the electronic music I used to listen to on the ‘Now That's What I Call Music CDs' (e.g ‘Walk on Water’).
The album was not just written and produced by the artist, but also mixed and mastered by her in addition to being designed by her. Discovering moistbreezy opened up whole new realms of possibilities as to what you can achieve as an independent artist, and will really make you wonder why a large number of commercial artists need at least 20+ people involved in every creative decision.
Her sheer creative output is something else; the 2024 album ‘Inferno’ sweats like a messy European summer holiday in 2003, one where everyone laced themselves in the tropical Jean Paul Gutier perfume, wore orange halter-neck dresses, and got absolutely obliterated on apple Vodka. It is very interestingly a “eurotrance interpretation of Dante’s classic poem, where Hell is a 9-story nightclub on a mysterious island somewhere off the coast of Italy” [via Bandcamp].
Dive in - a world of euphoric wonder awaits.

BUTCHABOI

I am a fiend for anything that has a 1990s house vibe blended with the dreaminess I associate with early-mid ‘00s electronic music. UK-based producer/artist BUTCHABOI has fused these two qualities to perfection, all flavoured with her own signature sound.
I first came across her via this year's ‘RHYTHM IS TAKING CONTROL’ (out via label Southpoint) and was blown away. This addictiveness continues on other tracks (such as ‘Feel U Closer ’) all of her releases having a dreamy, nostalgic quality blended with a razor-sharp ear for production. ‘DOWN WITH ME’ is one to go absolutely feral to on the dancefloor.
